Bartering tips for a dream wedding

In my previous post on budget weddings, I mentioned a lady who bartered her way to her dream wedding. I then did a little research on the internet and found out that she wasn't the only one. In fact, here are a few excellent examples that you could read up on:
And a couple of websites where you can learn the essentials of bartering. One thing is for sure, you'll need balls and guts to get yourself through! Another thing is make sure you have something that you can offer the vendors and once you reach a fair agreement, draw up a contract to seal the deal.
Some people may feel that it's tacky and that they will be branded as 'cheap' but seriously, do you really want to land yourself into a debt so soon after your wedding? Let's not forget that your new home is going to take up the bulk of your earnings as well as savings. Can you really afford to be extravagant when you don't have the means?

Naturally there will be pros and cons to this. Both parties have to be professional and follow through on their agreed trade or the relationship could become strained.

So my question to you is, will you barter for your wedding? We've seen successful foreign examples but will this work in Singapore? Will vendors in Singapore agree to barter their products and services to help a cash-strapped couple fulfill their dream wedding?

Do share your thoughts in the comments below. =3

Love,
Lilian
