Let's parteh!

Three young women smiling with drinks at hen party

It doesn't matter if you're a party girl or a demure gal who prefers the indoors to the outdoors. As long as you're getting married, it's only right you celebrate your last day/week/month of singlehood with your best gals. =3

The hen party has progressed since our mothers and grandmothers' days. Back then, women probably didn't even think of hiring strippers to liven up their party but today; there are hen parties of every description, depending on the bride-to-be's personality and tolerance threshold. ;-p

Of course, not every party is a decadent excuse to party your G-string off. There are ways to have fun without ending up drunk on the sidewalk or waking up with a hangover the next morning. It can be as simple as a meal at a cosy restaurant or a nice pampering manicure/pedicure session. Just make sure that everyone (especially the bride-to-be) is comfortable with the party theme and rock on! I'll advise a certain discretion when you're planning the party so the bride will be pleasantly surprised. =3

Here are some ways you can toast to the bride-to-be's impending nuptials:

Pamper yourself silly~

There's no reason why a girl can't look her best while partying! There are a number of manicure/pedicure/spa places around in Singapore that provides a pampering session that's sure to put the shine into the bride-to-be's eyes (and every hen that attends the session of course!)

Possible places you might wanna consider trying out (other than the usual clubbing and pubbing) are:

Manicure/Pedicure
Spa

Sing your heart out~

Not into girly stuff? Well, you can always gather a group of like-minded kakis and head into one of the KTV joints to show off your powerful chords!

My personal fave: TEN DOLLAR CLUB

This KTV joint was featured on an episode of 省钱王 for its fabulous ten dollar per person deal, shark's fin soup and FREE flow of drinks! Their range of songs are quite updated so if you're a recessionista planning a KTV party for your bridal friend, this may be a good option! Other joints include:
  • KBOX (check out their K Buffet if you want to eat and sing at the same time. The food's decent although each guest is entitled to only ONE free drink.)
  • PARTY WORLD
NOTE: There are quite a number of KTV joints around, including those smaller ones that are tucked away in community centres, HDB estates and certain questionable districts that I'm not so familiar with.

Munch munch~

Sometimes a girl just wanna eat her fill. =) You can either choose to go to your favourite restaurant or pick a new one that you haven't tried before! Either way, it's a nice way to get together with the girls. You might wanna spice up the event by getting little things like tattoos, velvet roses, sashes or any other prop that identifies the bride-to-be. =3

You can also bring some after-meal desserts like cupcakes or a naughty cake for a laugh. Check out the following links for truly creative works of confectionery. =3
See below for one of their lovely creations. We had a mafia girls kind of theme for the hen party where each of us had to stick on a temporary black rose tattoo. The cupcakes were chosen match the theme. =) They're halal so no worries if you have Muslim friends. I personally found them a little too sweet but if you lurve sweet stuff, then this is the choice for you. They don't provide delivery so you'll have to go to their place in Woodlands to self-collect.

If you're up for a truly naughty cake that your not-so-prudish friend will relish, check out this range. LOL.
I haven't tried this yet but if you have any comments, do let me know!

It's quite fun to plan a hen party for your friend but it doesn't have to be too expensive either. Be creative and source for cheap or free alternatives online or offline. I'm sure somewhere out there, there will be something you can use! =) Remember, Google is your best friend and have fun. Not sure what theme to go for? No worries, I'll have it covered for you in a future post.
